People in Shifnal had been warned that this year's carnival may have been the last because of a lack of volunteers.

But now 10 new members have stepped forward to join the committee, an increase from the six that were already signed up.

As well as committee members, eight new non-committee volunteers also agreed to help with the organisation at the committee's AGM on Monday.

New sub committee groups have also been set up to manage the fundraising and programmes for next year's carnival and there are plans for a new website for the event.

Angela Mullet was re-elected as chairman and treasurer for the committee.

She said: "The meeting went really well and we had quite a few people attend. Now we are hoping to move foward. All being well the carnival will happen, we're very pleased."

Terry Rockell was re-elected as vice chaiman of the committee and Jean Lishman was elected secretary, after returning to the committee for this year's carnival.

This year's event saw around 15 floats taking part in a procession through the town. Mrs Lishman said: "We want to keep that number up.

"We have said we are going to have one or two members of the committee going to meet with voluntary groups, organisations and families who regularly have a float to encourage them to take part again."

At their next meeting in January the committee members will start the planning for next year's event, set for June 28 For further information or to get involved, contact Angela on (01952) 289704 or Terry on 07428 631341.
