Bengal Spices in Ashfield House, Llanymynech, which was named Welsh Curry House of the Year in 2013, was closed for two days to allow Powys County Council's environmental health team to investigate.

The council said it received a report from a member of the public and an investigation was carried out on November 6 and evidence of rat activity was found.

Lee Evans, spokesman for Powys County Council, said the restaurant was closed voluntarily and reopened on Friday night.

He added: "We received a complaint from a member of the public regarding the possible presence of rats at Bengal Spices in Llanymynech.

"Staff from our food safety team carried out an inspection of the premises and during the inspection, found evidence of rat activity.

"This was brought immediately to the attention of the business operator, who voluntarily closed the premises to rectify the situation.

"Our food safety team worked closely with business operator in resolving this matter and the premises re-opened for business on Friday night."
