Pregnant Shropshire driver is forced off road by 4x4
A pregnant Shropshire woman had a lucky escape after the car she was driving was forced into a hedge by another motorist who failed to stop.
Margaret Hewson, known as Magz, from Calverhall, near Whitchurch, was treated for minor injuries at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the accident.
The 22-year-old, who is six months pregnant, suffered a back strain and sprained wrist, but no harm was done to her baby.
Miss Hewson was travelling between Ightfield and Whitchurch when a 4x4 vehicle travelling towards her overtook a cyclist, which forced her into a hedge.
Rob Hewson, her father, who is also the town's mayor, said he was "appalled" that no one stopped to check if his daughter was alright.
"I find it very distressing that anyone could leave a young lady in a country lane in that situation," he said.
"The next person might not be so lucky. That's what I'm concerned about. Tractors come down there like the clappers. People need to be careful."
The accident happened at about 6pm on November 8. It came two days after a boy of 14 was left lying on the road on a pedestrian crossing after a hit-and-run in Whitchurch. It happened on the traffic-light controlled crossing near the Dodington roundabout and suffered bruising and grazing.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in which a blue Skoda Fabia car left the road and went into the hedge between Ightfield and Whitchurch around 6pm on Friday.
"It was reported a 4x4 travelling towards her was overtaking a cyclist, forcing the Skoda into the roadside hedge. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Whitchurch or Shrewsbury police on 101."
