Applicants behind the plan for 22 homes at the Shropshire beauty spot appealed to a Government planning inspector after Shropshire Council failed to decide.

A hearing to determine the appeal will be held on January 16 at the council offices in Castle View, Oswestry, from 10am.

The application by James Wild, of CMS JAW Ltd, for homes in Swan Hill, sparked outrage among residents.

A petition by group Save Our Mere was signed by more than 2,000 people.

The site was originally promoted as part of the SAMDev proposals setting out housing development across Shropshire, but has been removed as a preferred location following the fierce opposition.
