Teenage boy is found dead at home
A teenager has been found dead at his home, leaving his school classmates in shock.
The 16-year-old, named locally as Dave Pugh, was discovered at his home in the Welshpool area.
No details of the circumstances surrounding his death have been revealed, although police are investigating.
The teenager was a pupil at Welshpool High School, where he was in year 11.
Fellow students were informed of his death in a series of special assemblies yesterday. The school says that support has been offered to them, with counselling available.
Police have launched an investigation into the teenager's death but officers say it is not being treated as suspicious. Sergeant Jon Rees from Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We are investigating the sudden death of a 16-year-old boy from the Welshpool area. He was found at his home address shortly after midnight yesterday."
Tributes were today paid to the boy on social networking sites, describing him as "amazing" and "one of the nicest people".
John Evans, spokesman for Powys County Council, issued a statement on behalf of Welshpool High School. He said: "It was with deep sadness and shock that the school learned of the tragic death of a Year 11 pupil.
"Pupils at the school were told of the death at a series of special assemblies on Monday. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the pupil at this very difficult time and we would ask that people respect their privacy."
Among the tributes on the social networking internet site was one from friend, Amy Davies.
The teenager revealed she had last seen him on Sunday, writing: "You were an amazing lad, always making people laugh and smile.
"Yesterday was the last time I'll ever see you. You were like a big brother to me, we have a lot of memories that I will never forget . I just can't believe you're gone, you will be truly missed by everyone."
Police said that an inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned.
