Councillors in Ironbridge last night agreed to pay Telford & Wrekin Council £350 to plant poppies on land under the bridge.

The planting will take place on a patch of land underneath the bridge and close to its War Memorial on The Wharfage.

The idea is to create a spectacular blanket of red flowers as a tribute to those who died in the Great War.

The idea has already been taken up by town councillors in Newport, who plan to sow poppy seeds on roundabouts and grass verges.
