Man injured in two-car smash

A man was taken to hospital following a crash between two cars on the Powys/Shropshire border.

The collision happened on the A490 Welshpool to Guilsfield road at 7.18am today between a white Volkswagen Transporter and a green Audi A4.

It is not known how serious the man's injuries are but the road was blocked for more than two hours while emergency services worked at the scene and cleared the debris.

Catharine Jones, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, said: "Police were called at 7.18am to reports of a road traffic collision on the A490 Welshpool to Guilsfield road.

"Two vehicles were involved, a white Volkswagen Transporter and a green Audi A4. The road was blocked for a time until 9.34am."

Lois Hough, Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman, added: "We were called at 7.21am to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A490 in Guilsfield, near Welshpool.

"A paramedic in a rapid response car and an emergency ambulance attended, and one man was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact the Dyfed-Powys Police Roads Policing Unit on 101.
