Newport post box is blown apart by vandals
A post box in a village near Newport has been blown apart by vandals using fireworks.
The Royal Mail post box in Howle, off the A41, was targeted by yobs, who pushed the explosives inside the box and set it alight.
The force of the explosion took the front cover off the post box.
Tony Wilcox, of nearby Bolas Heath, said it was not the first time the post box had been vandalised.
He said: "There really are some morons about. I don't know how many more times Royal Mail will be willing to install a new one."
Val Bodden, a spokeswoman for Royal Mail, said the post box would be replaced as soon as possible and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
She said: "The Royal Mail post box in the village of Howle is currently out of service following a recent vandal attack.
"We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and would ask them to use alternative nearby posting facilities.
There was no mail in the post box at the time of the attack on the box, which happened on Saturday.
