Jack and Luke Holmes-Medlicott had only had bunnies Milly and Tilly for a month before thieves took them, leaving £100 of damage behind.

The animals were taken from a shed in the back garden of their home in Springhill Crescent, Madeley.

The boys' mother Claire Holmes went to feed the pets and was shocked to find the shed broken into and the hutch empty.

The loss has left Jack, three and Luke, two, confused and distraught, said Mrs Holmes.

"Jack keeps shouting for the rabbits," she said. "He's really upset. He doesn't understand why or where the rabbits have gone.

"He's been so upset that he's stopped eating and has had to have time off nursery.''

She said the boys hoped that raising awareness of the theft might help bring the rabbits home and appealed for anyone who might have seen them to contact police.

Both bunnies are black females of around 12 weeks old. One has a large distinctive flash of white down its face and the other has small patches of white.

The theft happened sometime between 4.30pm last Wednesday and 9.30am on Thursday.

Chris Ammonds spokesman for West Mercia Police, said the theft caused £100 of damage, including the hutch door being wrenched off the hinges.

Mr Ammonds said: "We are looking into this matter. We would ask anyone with information about the rabbits to contact us."

West Mercia Police can be contacted on the force's non-emergency 101 number, quoting incident number 22GA71910M12.
