Emergency services were called to the house in Haygate Road, Wellington, at 11am on Monday after neighbours raised concerns about Mrs Kath Tyrer who lived alone in the house.

Detective Inspector Jim Bayliss said: "We have conducted extensive enquiries at the home of Mrs Tyrer.

"Her death continues to be treated as unexplained but we do not believe it to be suspicious.

"We are keen to trace her movements and would like to hear from anyone who saw her, perhaps walking her white dog, between 10am on Saturday, November 23 and 11am on Monday, November 25."

He added: "Police are also investigating reports of a white van that was parked on her drive on Sunday and are keen to trace the owner of that van."

Yesterday, several police cars and two ambulance rapid response vehicles lined the street and the area surrounding the house and the front garden was taped off.

Forensic officers wearing white overalls and face masks were working at the scene while uniformed officers carried out door-to-door inquiries. Today the house remained cordoned off and neighbours say police have been guarding the scene.

Mrs Tyrer was often seen walking her little white dog along Haygate Road, wearing white ankle socks and black sandals.

Sylvia Taras, hairdresser at Hair E Razor, said: "Her husband used to come in here and have his hair cut but he passed away a few years ago. Since then she has kept herself to herself, really."

Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "Anyone with information, who can help us piece together her movements over the last few days of her life, is asked call police on the non-emergency 101 number."
