But bosses at the Safer Roads Partnership say the speed of some motorists in St Martins Road, Gobowen, still remains unacceptably high and have not ruled out the return of the speed van in the future.

Campaigners in Gobowen were finding out today whether their calls to Shropshire Council for a St Martins Road pedestrian crossing has been successful.

Their campaign was given fresh impetus earlier this month when 11-year-old Oliver Lloyd suffered serious injuries when he was knocked down by a car at the spot where campaigners say the crossing should be installed.

Council highways chiefs were to meet today to discuss which traffic schemes should win funding. Work will start on the chosen schemes in the next financial year.
