Just one train a day on Shropshire's new direct link to London

Virgin Trains have announced details of the new direct rail link to London- but there will be just one train from Shrewsbury to London each day.

The service, set to begin in May , which promises to get travellers to the capital in two-and-a-half hours, will depart Shrewsbury at 4.03pm on working days and arriving at Euston at 6.32pm.

The return service from the capital to Shropshire will leave London Euston at 11.33am and arrive in Shropshire at 1.50pm.

The Sunday service will leave Shrewsbury at 4.03pm and arrive into Euston at 6.33pm, with the return service leaving Euston at 6.50pm and arriving in Shrewsbury at 9.39pm.

Councillors and business leaders have welcomed the return of the direct link but have said that the proposed timetable is not right for business people who need to get to London for morning meetings. The proposed timings also mean it would be impossible for people to go to London and back on the same day on a direct line.

Shrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski said: "These are good times for people who want to visit Shrewsbury or London for the weekend but they are not very conducive for business owners and people wanting to visit London for the day."
