M54 motorists face 11 nights of lane closures
Motorists will be hit with 11 nights of lane closures and a 15-mile diversion in the run up to Christmas on the M54 as workers repair a nine-mile stretch of road.
The Highways Agency has announced that the M54 between junction two at Wolverhampton and junction three at Tong will be closed for four nights.
It is all to carry out repairs to damaged edges on the hard shoulder as well as refreshing road markings and road studs.
From Monday until the morning of December 16, the inside lane and the hard shoulder of the westbound carriageway will be closed between 8pm and 6am.
Then follows four nights where all lanes of the carriageway are closed from December 16 until December 20 between the same hours.
Eastbound is not affected.
Drivers heading westbound face a 15- mile diversion that takes them from junction two on to the A449 towards Cannock and Stafford, then westbound on the A5.
They then have to head south along the A41 before rejoining the M54 at junction three. Highways Agency project manager Purnima Kaul said: "The aim of this scheme is to improve awareness of the road layout and provide a better driving experience for those using this stretch of road.
"The work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption but we advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys."
There are currently ongoing works to stengthen bridges on the M54 between junction 5 for Telford Town Centre and 7 at Wellington.
At junction 6 for Ketley, weeks of nighttime closures recently came to an end.
