Seriously injured driver trapped for 90 minutes after Shropshire crash
A motorist in his 60s was today in a serious condition in hospital following a head-on crash with a lorry on one of Shropshire's busiest roads near Newport.
The driver of a grey Jaguar X-Type, which was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes HGV and a silver Vauxhall Corsa, was trapped in the car for about 90 minutes while fire crews battled to cut him free.
He remains in a serious condition in the North Staffordshire Hospital at Stoke.
Police today appealed for witnesses to the accident on the A41 at the junction with the Edgmond road at 4.20pm yesterday.
Pc Paul Bosley, roads policing officer with West Mercia Police, said: "The collision happened in the northbound carriageway of the A41 and was more or less head on between the Jaguar and the HGV.
"The driver of the Jaguar was seriously injured and was taken to North Staffs hospital, where he still remains."
The Jaguar was travelling southbound towards the M54 at the time of the accident, and the lorry was travelling northbound. The Corsa was behind the Jaguar.
The passenger of the car, a woman in her late 50s, did not require hospital treatment. The lorry driver was uninjured.
