Guilty plea over foreman's death
A company has admitted health and safety failings after a long-serving foreman died after steel tubes toppled onto him.
Grandfather Ronald 'Ronnie' Meese was unloading a consignment of stacks of tubes with a forklift truck when it toppled onto him.
The 58-year-old was crushed to death at the Darlaston Road site in July 2011. He had been due to set off on a golfing holiday the next day.
Mr Bernard Thorogood, defending, entered a guilty plea on behalf of Roberts Gordon Europe Ltd at Wolverhampton Crown Court to one count of failing to ensure, as far as it is reasonably practical, the health and safety of its employees on or about July 24, 2011, including Mr Meese.
The case was adjourned for sentence on March 7 at the same court. Mr Meese's family said he had worked for the company for around 36 years.
