Flash mob dance treat for Shrewsbury shoppers

The impromptu display by Revel In Dance, based in the town, came during a busy weekend of Christmas shopping.

Sarah Davies, of Revel In Dance, who organised the flash mob, said: "Once shoppers realised what was happening so many stopped to watch and cheer the performers on. Two-thirds of the dancers were planted in the crowds so you can imagine the public's reaction when the person standing next to them suddenly joined in."

The dance group performed a similar stunt last year but dozens more people took part in Saturday's flash mob, with more than half the dancers aged under 14.

A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place and perform for a brief time, then quickly disperse.

Kevin Lockwood, manager of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said the weekend had been a bumper one.

"We've had a terrific final weekend here at the Darwin and Pride Hill Centres and the retailers are very busy going into the final couple of days before Christmas," he said.

"The indications are good for this very important pre-Christmas period and we've also been buoyed up by the number of new openings we've had – in fact children's clothing store Flutterbies and gadget suppliers Credible Accessories have opened in the last two weeks."
