Kate grabs £354 haul during Shropshire store trolley dash
It's something we've all wanted to do while watching Dale Winton on Supermarket Sweep – but one shopper got the chance to do a trolley dash for real around a supermarket in Shropshire.
Kate Pinder was given two minutes to pack as much as she could into a trolley at Stan's Superstore in St Martins, near Oswestry, after winning a competition.
And the mother-of-two – who was roared on by her husband Matthew and her sons – certainly filled her boots.
Her £354 haul included a turkey, gammon ham, a steak, biscuits and sweets – and, in the spirit of the occasion, staff let her keep the lot despite initially imposing a £250 cap.
Mrs Pinder, 32, who lives in Llangadfan, near Welshpool, collected four tokens for the competition run by the supermarket and the Star's sister paper the Oswestry & Border Chronicle after being prompted to enter by her grandmother and she was selected as the lucky winner.
She said: "I was quite nervous about it but once I got going I was fine," she said.
"I wanted to get a Christmas selection of stuff.
"I got us a turkey for Christmas Day and a gammon ham and tins of biscuits and sweets – Christmas stuff that you wouldn't normally have in the house in a million years.
"My grandma wanted some steak, so I got some steak for her and the kids were shouting at me to get things. They were very excited.
"I really enjoyed it."
Andrew Faulks, manager of Stan's Superstore, said: "I think the fact that she's been in the shop before, and the layout of our shop helps.
"Because we have all the special offers by the front door, everything you'd want for Christmas – turkey, joints of beef, wine, and everything else – was all in small area, so she really did fill her boots.
"She had in total £354 worth in the trolley. It was supposed to be capped at £250, but we let her have it all because it's a one-off.
"She brought all her family along as well to watch and they certainly enjoyed it."
