The removal means that the public are now able to access Frankwell car park.

The barriers were put up in the area last week amid fears the town would be hit by flooding, and the Environment Agency said they had worked well against rising water levels.

Jessica Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Environment Agency, said: "I understand that the water came up to the barriers so they all worked very well.

"Generally, over the weekend there is going to be an improved situation around the weather, but there are storms forecast from next week onwards so we will continue to monitor the situation to see what happens."

The centre of Shrewsbury was downgraded from flood alert on Friday.
