Readers' stunning pictures sent in to Star Witness

The pictures have been viewed and the results are in – Shropshire is looking as serene as ever.

Despite high winds and torrential rain battering the county in recent days, the latest batch of pictures sent in by readers show just how picturesque our county is.

From the rolling Stretton Hills to a duck on water, this month's Star Witness pictures once again show off Shropshire's beauty. Reader Shane Swannick sent in a picture of Bromlow Callow and Bentlawnt, which shows miles of rolling countryside with menacing clouds which look just like an oil painting.

Clouds also feature prominently in a number of other pictures sent in by snap-happy readers this month, showing that even in cold weather there are still chances to take that perfect picture. Tom Craig's picture of the Stretton Hills also shows the beautiful Shropshire countryside, while Jonathan Woody captured a magnificent sunset over the countryside which he took from a bridge crossing over the M54.

Mike Price sent in a different, somewhat atmospheric look at the famous cooling towers at Ironbridge Power Station, which he shot by taking an infra-red image of the four structures.

Another reader also went against the grain by taking a picture at night – of the landmark Iron Bridge. It's reflection in the water is clear to see thanks to nearby lights, which all amounts to a stunning picture.

The epitome of a cold winter's morning was sent in by one reader, with the sun bursting through the trees on The Wrekin.

Another crisp winter's morning was captured at Venus Pool in Cound, by Kain Prestwood, who sent his picture in of a duck on the still water.

The other three pictures had a touch of the international – and even intergalactic – about them. Tom Craig followed up his picture of the Stretton Hills with a contrasting snap of Telford at night, from above, which makes it look more like Tokyo than Telford.

And while the Far East is the land of the rising sun, a sunrise over Ludlow Racecourse captured by Phil Scott showed south Shropshire in a good light.

The final picture of this month's round-up was out of this world – quite literally.

Jono Kimber captured the International Space Station flying over the county, with Ironbridge Power Station also in view to the left of frame just for good measure.

The Shropshire Star launched Star Witness in October and 645 readers have since submitted pictures taken around the county, including autumnal scenes, snowy landscapes and dramatic sunrises.

The picture perfect snaps have been sent in as part of Star Witness, which sees one lucky photographer win £100 each month for submitting the best picture.

It's a chance for everyone – from novices armed with just a smartphone, traditionalists armed with a Brownie, or professionals snapping away on the latest Nikon – to get their pictures seen.

Not only will the best picture each month be rewarded with £100 cash prize – but the pictures will be seen by tens of thousands of Star readers.
