The 15-year-old fell about a metre in Corbett Wood, between Shrewsbury and Wem, at about 2.45pm on Saturday.

The girl banged her head and also hurt her face, Chris Kowalik, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

An ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended.

Mr Kowalik said: "She had pain to her neck and the back of her head and was flown to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

Corbett Wood was for centuries the centre of a busy quarrying industry as well as some copper mining and is now popular with walkers.
