Aaron Blizard, from Overdale Road, Bayston Hill, admitted two charges of criminal damage on December 7 when he appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard that the 20-year-old, who had been drinking, became cross when his mother told him her partner was due to return home.

"They argued and she was afraid," said Mr Andrew Buerk, prosecuting. "The defendant threw a packet of crisps at her and then she heard the sideboard being thrown and glasses breaking.

"The defendant then kicked at the kitchen door and by the time police arrived the stair spindles had been broken too.

"The defendant was arrested and was taken to the police station where be smeared blood and water on the floor, ceiling and walls as well as destroying a mattress and pillow.

"When interviewed he said he had been to the pub with friends, gone home and couldn't remember anything more."

Mr Paul Nicholas for Blizard said: "This action was totally out of character for him. He is ashamed of his actions."

Blizard was given an 18-month conditional discharge by town magistrates.

He was also ordered to pay £300 compensation, £85 costs and £15 surcharge.
