Hearing on Wem homes plan
An informal hearing will be held to decide whether plans to build 22 homes in Wem should be approved.
The scheme, in Wem, has been rejected twice by Shropshire Council.
Now the applicants are appealing to a Government planning inspector to overturn the decision.
The Millhouse Group submitted the proposal to build nine town houses and 13 apartments off Mill Street last year – about nine months after having a similar scheme thrown out by the council.
The plans have sparked concerns about flooding, traffic and the development being out of keeping with the area.
During public consultation for the resubmitted plans, Shropshire Council received two petitions with 211 signatures from people opposed to the development.
Seventeen letters were sent from residents who said there was no need for an additional housing development in Wem, that there were more suitable sites and that if approved the development would increase the risk of flooding.
Wem Town Council also objected to the scheme after raising fears of pollution, traffic, flooding and the design and appearance of the site.
Applicants say the amended scheme provides "sustainable and affordable" accommodation in Wem.
The hearing to determine the appeal will now be held on January 23 at Shirehall, from 10am.
