Man accused of Newport bank robbery too sick for court hearing
A man accused of robbing a bank in Shropshire after absconding from prison was unable to attend his court hearing due to ill health.
Martin Dawson faces charges of robbery and escaping from lawful custody. But he was unable to attend the hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday after doctors said he was to ill to travel.
Dawson, 50, is accused of carrying out a robbery at the Britannia bank in High Street, Newport, on June 29 last year. He is also accused of absconding from Sudbury Prison in Derbyshire five days earlier.
He faces charges of robbery, two of possessing a firearm and one of escaping lawful custody. He has not yet entered a plea to any of the charges.
The case was adjourned until February 10.
Dawson is currently in custody at Winson Green Prison in Birmingham.
