Shropshire Star at 50: Same values in changing world
When the first edition of the Shropshire Star rolled off the press on October 5, 1964, few could have predicted the way the media – and society generally – would change in 50 years, writes the paper's editor Martin Wright.
Throughout its history, the Star has strived to be at the forefront of change in the publishing world.
Our printed editions remain at the heart of our business, but today we are a multimedia publisher delivering news in whatever format you choose.
Our website is among the fastest-growing regional news sites in the UK, and readers can keep up to date through our apps, our digital editions or through Twitter and Facebook.
Yet our core values remain the same: We strive to provide quality journalism that is accurate, fair, reasonable and balanced.
We report on stories that matter to you from tragedy to celebration. We will hold the authorities to account if we think they've got it wrong – and we'll applaud them when they get it right.
Along the way, we'll be at council meetings, courts, inquests, inquiries and community events. In fact, we'll be anywhere there's a story to be told.
Above all, we want to give you, our readers and advertisers, newspapers that inform and entertain.
In this changing world, rest assured the Star will continue to give the best news and analysis from around the region
Thank you for your continued support.
