Villagers already making plans for 2015 National Eisteddfod
Wales's National Eisteddfod will be coming to the Shropshire border next year – and fundraising is already under way to help host it.
The 2015 event, a national cultural festival of Welsh music and literature competition, is to be held at Meifod, between Oswestry and Welshpool.
It will run from July 31 until August 8 and will mark 12 years since the event last visited the area.
People involved in the event have pledged to raise funds towards the running costs of the week-long event. The people of Llanymynech, which straddles the border, have already started their fundraising preparation and will be holding a Carreghofa and Llanymynech's got Talent show on March 8.
Spokeswoman Nesta McCluskey said: "Llanymynech needs to raise £2,000 towards this target and the first fundraising occasion is the talent show.
"There will be a range of acts to see, singing and dancing from Carreghofa Primary school, local bands, drama performances and performances from local groups, young and old."
The show will be held in Llanymynech Village Hall at 7pm and tickets, costing £4 and £2, can be bought from the village shop or Carreghofa school or ring (01691) 839979.
If any local group would like to take part in the show, or if anyone would like to donate a raffle prize, they can also ring (01691) 839979
When news of the 2015 event at Meifod was announced eisteddfod chief executive Elfed Roberts said: "I'm delighted we will be returning to Montgomeryshire, to Meifod and to Mathrafal, home of the 2003 eisteddfod.
"This was a hugely successful week for the festival. We want to encourage people from all over Montgomeryshire to be part of the preparations."
