Project leaders behind the revamp had hoped it would be open by Easter following the near £1 million scheme.
But it is now anticipated the building will not reopen to the public until June – a year after work started.
Shropshire Council's historic environment manager Colin Richards said concerns had been raised for some time about the "visual impact" of removing the original hard cement mortar, which had damaged the edges of the building's soft bricks.
The change in appearance became more apparent on the removal of the scaffolding in November, he said, adding that the completion of the renovation scheme will now be delayed probably until June.
