An hourly bus service will be introduced in Ludlow from Monday after another operator pulled out.

Commercial operators R & B Travel will stop running services – including the town's Park and Ride service – tomorrow. Residents had feared being left for up to a week without buses as there was no firm plan for a replacement.

Shropshire Council has said Minsterley Motors will run an hourly service from Monday. But campaigner Andy Boddington said he had concerns visitors would be put off visiting the town as buses would run hourly rather than every 30 minutes.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council cabinet member for transport, said: "These are, of course, interim arrangements, which we appreciate is not a like-for-like replacement of the service, while we look at the options for the service."

In September four subsidised routes, the 701, 702, 703 and 704, were replaced with the 701 and 722 run by R & B Travel.

But boss Alan Radnor said the service was unsustainable and gave notice to stop by January 25.

As of Monday Minsterley Motors will run a single bus, the 701, hourly between 7.05am and 6.10pm.

A public meeting on bus services is being held on February 1 at the Women's Centre, Church Street, Ludlow.
