The five-year-old escaped unhurt from the collision close to Wombridge Primary School in Oakengates.

But officers are keen to speak to a woman pushing a buggy who they believe may have seen what happened.

The boy's leg was knocked by the wing mirror of a Rover being driven by a woman on Hartshill at about 3.20pm on Wednesday, January 22.

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "At about 3.20pm on Wednesday, January 22, close to Wombridge Primary School on Hartshill, Oakengates, a five-year-old pupil was being carried by his grandfather after school.

"The boy's leg was struck by the wing mirror of a car which may have mounted the kerb.

"He did not suffer any serious injuries but we are keen to track down anybody who may have witnessed the incident.

"The vehicle was thought to be a Rover driven by a woman.

"We think a woman pushing a buggy may have witnessed the incident."
