The event raised cash for Severn Hospice and the Shropshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The 45-year-old told the audience last year's mayor of Wem Peter Broomhall had approached him about doing something to raise cash for his two charities.

Last night's gig was sold out months in advance and Davies, who singled out Mr Broomhall in the crowd for praise, said: "Peter Broomhall asked me if I could do something when he was mayor to support his charities, but I have been so ludicrously busy that when I finally had time to help he was no longer mayor.
