Fears for post office as Welshpool shop to close
The only post office in a town on the Shropshire border could have to relocate after its host-shop revealed it is to close.
The post office counter in Welshpool is currently located in One Stop, on Broad Street. But last week the shop confirmed it plans to close, leaving the Post Office unsure as to where it will be based.
Mike Hill, spokesman for One Stop, said: "We have exchanged contracts for this store, subject to Post Office approval, and expect the deal to be completed in the next few months."
The Post Office confirmed it has been told the shop will be closing and said it is looking at options for future locations.
Spokesman Cathal Wogan said: "We can confirm that One Stop have given us notice they are leaving the Welshpool premises.
"Customers should be assured that the Post Office is committed to maintaining a Post Office service in Welshpool and will work hard to ensure this."
