Telford man taken to hospital after chip pan fire
A man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation today after a chip pan fire at his Telford home.
The man, thought to be in his late 40s, fled his house in the early hours of this morning.
He had left a chip pan unattended and it had set fire to the kitchen, setting off the smoke alarm.
The man managed to get out of the house in Charlecote Park, Newdale, before fire crews arrived at 1.35am.
One engine from Wellington, another from Telford Central and a support officer went to the scene.
Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the flames by 2.10am.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance as he was suffering from smoke inhalation.
Watch manager John Pritchard from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The kitchen was severely damaged but the damage was contained to the ground floor of the property.
"There was one occupier of the property who was alerted to the fire by his smoke alarm.
"He had left the property when we arrived and was taken to hospital suffering with smoke inhalation.
"The cause was found to be a chip pan left unattended.
"We would like to stress the dangers of leaving chip pans unattended and the importance of having a working smoke alarm."
