Inspector Richard Langton completed his final shift as the officer in charge of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Wellington last week.

Inspector Langton was promoted to Chief Inspector at a recent promotion board and took up a new role as a member of the Police Command Team in North Worcestershire, based at Kidderminster Police Station, from today.

Inspector Langton took up his role in Wellington in 2008 and over the years has been involved in a number of high profile operations and investigations in the town, including Georgia Williams' murder. He is now the chairman of The Georgia Williams Trust.

Inspector Langton said: "I am thrilled to have been promoted to Chief Inspector and am very much looking forward to the challenges ahead in North Worcestershire.

"However, my move from Wellington will be tinged with sadness at leaving a town where I have enjoyed the support of some wonderful people, and where I feel we have achieved a great deal together."

He will continue to chair The Georgia Williams Trust.

Superintendent Nav Malik, Police Commander for Telford & Wrekin, said: "He has been instrumental in bringing all sections of the Wellington community together, working tirelessly to ensure greater community and interfaith cohesion."

Inspector Gary Wade will replace Inspector Langton from today.
