Kevin Edwards was said to have committed the offence in a caravan in the Clee Hill area of Shropshire around 20 years ago.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Edwards, of George Street, was given 34 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
Judge Robin Onions accepted it had been an isolated incident and there had been no repetition.
He said that but for the 45-year-old defendant's admission to police, he may not have been prosecuted.
