The oil was stolen from a property in the centre of Llanerfyl some time between January 16 and February 4.

It is the latest in a series of fuel thefts in the area and has led officers to reissue advice about protecting fuel supplies.

Catherine Jones, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, said: "Heating oil, diesel and gas are sought-after commodities that can lead to increases in theft. But by taking a few simple steps you can help prevent becoming a victim of this type of crime.

"Be aware of your oil levels and check frequently. Where possible keep your levels low and the same when re-filling – speak to your supplier with regards to a more frequent but smaller deliveries.

"If you have a plastic tank, consider erecting fencing around the tank with one end hinged and locked for filling purposes.

"Use a quality anti-cut close-shackled padlock and chain to lock gas bottles to a securely fixed post or construct fencing as described above which can also help hide the bottles from inquisitive callers.

"If you have outside security lighting, then please ensure the system works and light sensors have been adjusted correctly to detect movement.

"If you see anything suspicious, or any suspicious vehicles in your area, please contact either your local police station or give CrimeStoppers a call."
