Shropshire tractor event set to pull the crowds
Dozens of tractors will set off around the roads and lanes in the Churchstoke area later this month in memory of a farmer who died almost 10 years ago.
The ninth Derek Page Memorial tractor run will be held on February 23 with the tractors of every shape, size and age, expected to gather at Harry Tuffins, Churchstoke.
Proceeds from the 2014 event will be divided between The Neo Natal Trust Fund at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support.
It has been organised by Mr Page's son, Roger, an agricultural engineer from Pentre near Churchstock.
He said his father, who died nine years ago at the age of 67, had been a well known farmer and agricultural contractor.
"I had done up our 1969 Massey Ferguson 135 and he used to show it around the shows. He loved it."
"When he died we decided to organise a tractor run in the February, when he would have celebrated his birthday. It has just gone on from there." Mr Page said.
He said that the event usually attracted between 70 and 80 tractors.
"We do a route of about 25 miles, keeping away fromt he main roads, and end up with a lunch at a hotel. It's very popular.
