Alison Martin, 46, started writing stories about monkeys about six years ago when her daughter Hannah, then seven, was struggling with reading.

And Mrs Martin's tale entitled Charlie, the Brave Monkey has been picked up by Strategic Book Publishing, based in the USA, and is now available in print.

The mother-of-two, of Orchard Close, Donnington, Telford, said: "I wrote a series of books to encourage Hannah. It really helped and now she reads quite a bit." The book is priced at about £8.50 and is available with top online retailers, including Amazon and Waterstones.

Mrs Martin has also had offers from book shops in Shropshire, including Newport Bookshop in Upper Bar.
