The man suffered knee and abdominal injuries following the collision with a car on the A49 at Affcot, near Craven Arms.

It happened just before 2.30pm yesterday and caused traffic delays for motorists as fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called out at 2.20pm to reports of a collision between a car and a motorcycle.

"One ambulance attended the scene, and the air ambulance was requested initially but not required in the end.

"A 56-year-old man, who was the motorcyclist, was suffering from knee and abdominal pain and was conveyed to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital via land ambulance."

She added that it was believed the driver of the car had escaped unhurt.
