Public consulted on Donnington MoD site expansion
The first public consultation on plans to develop the Ministry of Defence site in Donnington has been a success, according to Telford & Wrekin Council.
Last night, more than 150 people attended an event at Donnington Life Long Learning Centre to find out more about the proposals to transform the MoD Donnington site with the aim of delivering logistics operations for the ministry.
Russell Griffin, a spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "Thanks very much to everyone who came along. We had some very useful and constructive feedback."
The council is seeking consent for two sites directly linked to MoD Donnington.
The applications include three major warehouses, associated car parking and offices.
It includes a Fulfilment Centre which at its maximum would be 675,000 sq ft and up to 35 metres high in part.
On the same site, the planning application includes a further 200,000 sq ft warehouse as well as a 30,000 sq ft three-storey office building.
The second planning application relates to a plot of land close to the Telford International Railfreight Park.
It includes a 280,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution facility on land to the east of Hortonwood 37 and along the western boundary of the existing MoD Donnington site.
The planning applications are expected to go before Telford & Wrekin Council's Planning Committee in March and the MoD decision on where its logistics operation is based is likely to be later this year.
Earlier this week Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council agreed to recommend the scheme should be approved.
The meeting was told it would dominate the skyline in the area – but would also help secure more than 750 jobs in the town.
For anyone who could not make the previous consultation meeting, there will be two further drop-in events – one at the Castle Farm Community Centre today from 3.30pm to 8pm and another on Monday at Kynnersley Village Hall, also from 3.30pm to 8pm.
