Staff from Sleapy Cat Rescue, in Sleap, near Wem, are now desperately trying to find homes for the animals after their owner was told to give them up by Shropshire Council.

Eve Dodds, who runs the rescue centre, said she is now full to the brim with cats, all of whom are looking for a happy home.

And she added the situation has become even more tricky after discovering one of the eight cats rescued was pregnant with her kittens due in April.

She said: "We are absolutely swamped. We are so busy and it won't be long until we are looking for homes for all the kittens so if anyone is interested in rescuing a cat I urge them to get in contact."

Ms Dodds said her resident cat, Dave, has even had to be moved from his own pen to make room.

"We'd love to find happy homes for them all so if anyone is thinking about rescuing a cat we would love them to get in touch on 07743 644795."
