Commons debate on Shropshire and Powys power line bid

The power line due to cross Shropshire taking electricity from windfarms in Mid Wales to the National Grid was being debated in Parliament today.

Montgomery MP Glyn Davies secured a half hour debate to air his fears about the high voltage Mid Wales Connection Line.

He said the building of the line to link a sub station proposed for Cefn Coch to the National Grid at Lower Frankton, near Ellesmere, could open the flood gates to scores of new windfarms in Mid Wales.

Currently four new sites and a refurbished windfarm are being proposed and are the subject of a year-long planning inquiry in Welshpool.

Mr Davies said: "What makes me so worried about this connection power line is its capacity. I believe it has the capacity to deal with between 500-600 wind turbines, far more than are planned."
