At the age of 86, Ken Dodd is full of happiness – even into the early hours of today.

The veteran comic traditionally wrapped up his show in Telford in wee hours following a rapturous reception from his adoring fans.

It was a sell-out occasion at The Place in Oakengates as the King of Knotty Ash and Daddy of the Diddymen arrived in town.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star, he insisted that he still has endless energy for his famous marathon shows and that his fans love his humour, adding: "They want a laugh and to have a good night out – that is why is works."

One of Ken's biggest fans Rosemarie Jones, of Atcham, who has seen more than 300 Doddy shows, was there with her daughter and granddaughter.

The trio had their usual front row seats to be as close as possible, and Rosemarie said: "My daughter and granddaughter are just as keen as I am. We are three generations who absolutely adore Ken. I just don't know how he keeps on going."

Doddy fan, Norman Angell, of Shifnal, said: "What a performer, it was an absolutely super evening and Ken is still such good value."
