Pet dog advice at Welshpool chipping sessions

Advice on responsible pet ownership will be given later this month in a town which has banned dogs from certain public areas because of complaints of fouling.

The advice will be given during a dog-chipping session in Welshpool.

The town council introduced dog control orders on many open spaces which are under its control in response to the repeated dog fouling taking place in the area.

Council bosses urged dog owners to take greater responsibility for their pets.

That message will be echoed when dog owners have the opportunity on the weekend of February 22 and 23 to have their pets micro-chipped for free.

The Dogs Trust, the largest dog welfare charity in the UK, is hosting their Chip My Dog event at Coed Y Dinas Garden Centre in Welshpool between 10am and 4pm on both days.

Powys County Council's environmental protection team is urging owners who haven't had their dog chipped to do so.
