Shropshire commuters faced rail delays

Travellers faced rail chaos today after a signalling fault at Telford meant trains could not run.

Coaches were running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury, but the problem was repaired just after 12pm.

London Midland spokeswoman Lindsey Preece, said it would take some time to clear the backlog.A spokeswoman took over routes from 11.30am and before that, tickets were being accepted on Arriva service buses.

Trains between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street were being affected.

Passengers travelling on the route this afternoon were having to take the busbetween Telford and Shrewsbury.

The 8.47am Shrewsbury to Birmingham New Street service was the first service to be delayed at Oakengates, while the 9.05am service in the opposite direction terminated at Wolverhampton.

A spokesman for train operator London Midland, which runs Telford station, said: "Owing to signalling problems at Telford Central, train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed at short notice.

"An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed," he added.
