Marcus Marcussen leaned over the wooden rails in Birmingham Magistrates Court as he confirmed his name.

But the retired PE teacher, who walks with a wooden stick, slumped back into the seat behind and was too emotional to confirm his date of birth and address.

The court was told Marcussen, of Tenbury Wells, faces 15 counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency against boys under 16 between 1973 and 1978. Marcussen was a PE teacher at Ilmington Road Comprehensive School in Weoley Castle, Birmingham, for 45 years.

During the 10-minute hearing, the pensioner looked overcome with emotion. The former teacher put his hand on his hand or over his mouth and kept his head bowed.

He was granted unconditional bail until his next appearance at Birmingham Crown Court on June 12.
