Ben Simons and Stuart Benson will represent Great Britain in the four-man bobsleigh event this afternoon.

Benson, an airman based at RAF Cosford, will go with team GBR1, while Simons, from Broseley, will go with team GBR2 in Sochi, Russia, when the event starts at 4.25pm.

Banners have been draped across Broseley ready for the debut appearance of 27-year-old Simons.

His proud parents, Patrick and Dawn, said it was great to see the town get behind their son.

Mr Simons said: "There's a big banner in the town and the shops have also decorated their windows in support of him.

"It's nice to see the community get behind him. He's the first Olympian I've heard of from Broseley.

"Dawn also works in Short Wood Primary School in Wellington, so all the children there are following him on Twitter.

"We're so proud of him and he's come a long way from when he competed in the Wenlock Olympics as an eight-year-old."

Simons ran for the Wenlock club until he was 16, competing in the decathlon and sprinting events.

He moved to Telford Athletics Club and represented the county before going on to become Welsh champion over 60 metres.

He also represented Wales during the 4x100 metres, thanks to his mother's place of birth.

The former William Brookes School pupil saw trials advertised for the British bobsleigh team while studying at Cardiff University.

Corporal Stuart Benson, 32, has already represented his country in bobsleigh, securing Britain's first podium finish since 1998 at the World Championships in December at Lake Placid.

The quartet claimed fourth overall but earned silver as the second highest-placed European team.

Benson, who originates from Troon on the West coast of Scotland, joined the Royal Air Force aged 20, in 2000.

He works as an Avionics Technician at RAF Cosford.
