Midsummer charity ball to have 007 theme in Whitchurch
Party-goers will be shaken not stirred when a James Bond-themed bash takes place in Shropshire to raise money for charity.
A 007 midsummer ball will be held at Dearnford Lake, near Whitchurch on June 28, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The evening will feature a red carpet, Martini reception, a speedboat on the lake and sports cars. Guests will be escorted to the 007-themed marquee to the sounds of well-known James Bond songs, including Skyfall.
After a four-course dinner, there will be a speech by Ashley Green, a charity auction hosted by television auctioneer Christina Bebbington and music by June Notes.
The ball committee hopes to raise more than £20,000. The committee comprises a group of friends and business people in Whitchurch, many of whom have been affected by cancer.
Claire Brown, chairman of the ball committee, said: "This is our first midsummer ball and there is already a great amount of interest and support for the event. We are grateful to Border Bars and Marquees for the marquee, Sarah's Embroidery for the design and printing of marketing material and catering uniforms and Richard Wilkinson Photography, the official ball photographer."
Helen Knight, Macmillan fundraising manager, added:
"By holding a local ball we are able to continue our work within the county. By raising £20,000 we can continue to fund our Macmillan support manager for 12 months.
Tickets cost £45 each or £400 if purchasing a table of 10. They will be available from Dearnford Lake Café or on (01948) 665914 from Saturday. Organisers are seeking sponsorship and auction prizes. For details email juliaallinson@yahoo.co.uk
