On five occasions last year Anita Beverley Molyneux kept cash paid by guests and from restaurant and bar takings at the Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court last week Molyneux, 50, was given a nine month sentence suspended sentence for two years. In addition she will be on a monitored curfew for 12 weeks and must pay around £200 compensation.

Molyneux, of Dairy House Barns, Wem Lane, Soulton, had admitted charges of theft between February 2 and 25 last year.

Friday's court hearing was told that more than £1,500 went missing and that Molyneux, during her temporary three-month contract, marked the monies in a banking ledger as refunds to avoid detection. Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said that as receptionist the defendant was on duty each morning and was responsible for booking -in and checking-out guests.

She collected payment from guests who paid in cash and her role also involved taking cash from the safe, including monies taken in the restaurant and bar the previous evening, to enter into the ledger.
