Woman is cut free from her car following accident near Market Drayton

An elderly woman had to be cut free from her car following a two-car crash.

The busy A53 was closed for several hours between Hodnet and Wollerton in Market Drayton.

Fire crews from Market Drayton, Hodnet and a rescue tender from Wellington were called to the scene at Tern Hill roundabout yesterday at 5.55pm.

The woman, who had badly broken her ankle, was immobilised and taken by ambulance to University Hospital of North Stafforshire in Stoke-on-Trent.

A man was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Claire Brown, from West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called about 5.50pm to Tern Hill in Market Drayton and sent two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and a trauma doctor. There were two patients. A man in one car was treated for minor injuries.

"An elderly lady, was cut free from her car suffering quite a nasty fracture to her ankle."
