Pupils from Old Hall School in Wellington were shown around the paper's offices at Ketley, Telford, to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the newspaper industry works.

Headteacher Martin Stott said the children had all won a journalism competition, where they were asked to design their own front pages.

"They were all genuinely interested," he said.

"They asked really great questions and they obviously got a lot out of it. They really enjoyed their visit and it gives them something else they can look forward to in the future.

"They were asking about how they can become journalists, what they can do to progress and that side of things as well as going to see the printing room, which they really liked ."

The children had a video presentation about the Shropshire Star before putting questions about the paper to editor Martin Wright."

The group was then given a tour of the building, including a visit to the press hall, by operations director Graeme Clifford to see the newspaper being produced. They were then given goodie-bags with mementos of their visit.

Chris Leggett, MNA brand and communications manager, said: "The Shropshire Star is rightly proud of its 50-year contribution to county life so we were delighted to offer Old Hall the chance to visit.

"The pupils, who had won a competition to take part, were very interested and asked intelligent questions about the company, its printed portfolio and the digital future."
