Mayor of Telford & Wrekin Leon Murray and his wife Barabra Murray hosted fundraising evening at Dragon’s Den

Leon Murray and his wife Barbara held the fundraising event at Dragon's Den in Central Square at the town centre last night.

Their guests were treated to a traditional Chinese banquet with all the proceeds from the evening's festivities going to the Mayor's nominated charities, Severn Hospice Telford and Wellington Cottage Care Trust.

The night was hailed as a resounding success, raising hundreds for these worthwhile causes.

The total is yet to be finalised but with diners donating generously to the raffle and auction it is expected to be several hundreds of pounds.

Around 40 guests enjoyed the taste of the Orient with a variety of dishes and accompanied by drinks.

Cllr Murray said: "It went extremely well.

"We had a nice time. We think we raised quite a bit of money for my charities.

"I don't know the final figure yet but the restaurant gave £10 for every person that went and I think there were about 40 of us in total.

"Then we had a raffle and an auction which seemed to raise much more, so I will know the exact figure tomorrow."

He added: "It was a great turnout for a week night and everyone really enjoyed themselves and gave generously to the causes.

"I am extremely grateful to Dragons Den for doing it.

"The staff were great and they really made it a success.

"Everyone who came was very supportive of the two charities which do a fantastic job in Telford and Shropshire.

"Most people know somebody or have relatives who have used these services and they have proved a vital lifeline for so many.

"I have been connected with them for a number of years and I have watched the commitment and dedication of the staff year or year.

"I believe we should all do whatever we can to support them."

He thanked everyone for taking the time out to attend the event.
